Intelligent MUSIC

http://soundcloud.com/lefrenk

Spanish IDM producer. I am listening to one of his tracks at this very moment and I really enjoy how soft and progressive his music is, positive emotion runs high as I enjoy "Celeste". Lately I have diverted a bit from the dubstep, electro house, and drum n bass being I am trying to broaden my horizons. I have been exploring more minimal electronic, and IDM and experimental. I think electronic dance music can get really repetitive and annoying and I think that IDM is a sector of electronic music that needs to be fully engaged.

This is another IDM producer whom resides in Canada but is orginally from Australia. The prior producer based his IDM more in techno, minimal, and house. This producer could be classified as IDM/glitch. Both producers are different, I am a sucker for glitch though. Here is the first track I heard from Groj.

Pittsburgh Progressive Electronic Music Scene

So it seems the group I started on facebook "Pittsburgh Progressive Electronic Music Scene" has become quite successful. It seems I have sparked a mass integration of local IDM and EDM producers. I have pushed past electronic music to integrate a lot of avante garde or experimental producers into the mix. People actually consistently post in this group, and I am proud to say the initiation of this group has sparked change within the community. Furthermore, people are hosting shows due to the presence of this group and the group helps.

Interview with Vannin

1. How would you describe your music? How would you describe both your method and and attitude towards producing electronic music?
I'd say it's a combination of melodic and grimey, well that's what i'm going for at least. I really enjoy the trance-y buildups and melodic intros into the heavy Dubstep drops. About 90% of the time i'll start a project by making patches (creating sounds in native instruments massive) and messing around/experimenting then i'll set them aside and come back to them later. It's an odd process but it helps me stay creative and when I open the project again i'll usually have cool ideas and build off of them. Also, I've been listening to electronic music since i was about 12-13, i started getting getting into trance around high school and it slowly became the only genre i would listen to, then I got into house around 2008. I actually didn't like Dubstep at all when I listened to it for the first time, being a trance kid I thought it was just a bunch of noises at half time, lol. But I slowly started reading into it and checking out more tunes and I ended up really enjoying it.

2. What program(s) do you use for production?
I use FL Studio & Native Instruments Massive.

3. How long have you been producing?
6 months now.

4. What inspired you to make electronic music?
Well my love for the music of course, but also the feeling I get when I watch people go crazy to my tunes really keeps me going.

5. How is the electronic music scene in SF?
It's actually really big but It's really repetitive. Same dj's, same venues etc etc. Vital Sc brings out the big dogs like rusko, borgore, skream, benga, the others, skrillex etc and keeps things interesting.

6. What would you say is the most popular sub genre in the electronic music scene in SF?
House for sure.

7, Are you strongly connected within your local community of producers and djs? Nationally? Internationally?
Yeah I have some producer's that I talk to from time to time. More US producers like getter, halo nova, kHoff, kaza but some international artists too like bytesize, addergebroed etc. It's nice to chat with them though, bounce ideas back and forth, get tips etc. :)

8. Do you feel that the uprising of technology via the internet via sound cloud could spark a possible cultural revolution being sound cloud is a growing community of producers that produce their music out of shear ambition and not for the purpose of monetary gain?
Yeah I use sound cloud myself, it's a really really awesome site to get in touch with other producers and amazing for self promotion, much better than myspace in my opinion. Instead of spamming a bunch of youtube links all you need to do is show someone your sound cloud and it has everything you want to show people right there.

9. How many shows have you played? Any festivals?
Well I used to DJ under the alias Digital Insomnia and I played a lot of shows under that name. All in all I've probably played over 130? I'm also open for bookings! Email me at vannin.sf@gmail.com if you're interested ;)

10. What other producers do you admire in the current electronic music scene?
Oh man this list is huuuuge. I find myself listening to a lot of Ferry Corsten, ATB, laidback luke, angger dimas, skrillex, gambit etc.

11. I really like your dubstep/psytrance track, Do you agree with me that dubstep really is a special genre because it has become so versatile and is increasingly so?
Thank you. Also yes, that's the main thing I love about dubstep, anything is possible. Literally anything. It's the genre without limits in my opinion.

12. What producers inspired you to producer the music you produce?
Dowlinks Gamma ray burst and Vaski's act like you know really drew me to dubstep but actually getting into producing it i'd say I just decided to give it a shot one day, lol.

13. Would you say your strengths lie in mixing or producing?
Well I don't feel I have many strengths in producing yet. I'm still very new.

14. Have you collaborated with any other producers? If not, do you plan to?
Yeah I've collaborated with kHoff, really talented guy. I also have two collabs in the works with Torus & I.Dot ;)

15. What are you working on currently that is not released yet to sound cloud?
Some trance tunes/drumstep stuff. It's sounding fucking nuts!

16. What are your thoughts on your preference program for producing music?
FL Studio is very very user friendly, i've tried reason and ableton but i couldn't get into it as much as i've gotten into FL

17. What equipment do you use to dj?
I Use CDJ's and a pair of Shure SRH750 DJ Headphones that I also use to produce with.

18. How socially accepted/popular is electronic music in your area?
100% Accepted. People bump EDM down the street in their cars and kids walking outside just dance. It's great, haha.

19. How do you feel about the status quo of planet earth?
2012.

20. Tell me a bit about the general attitudes in SF.
Cocky kids with no talent. Humble folk with mountains of talent yet no recognition. It's like hollywood. Haha.

New Tracks

So I am currently going through all of the producers I follow on Soundcloud and listening to their new tracks and sharing and reviewing them.

This is a track by BEAZT. Dubstep from New Jersey, I can definitely tell this producer has name some improvements. The complexity of his tracks have greatly heightened. Furthermore, I really like the eerie feel to his music, great time for a halloween rave!! :D

BEAZT-When Night Falls ( Reworked for DIRTY FREE! ) by .BEAZT.

And now for something COMPLETELY Different.

It really ticks me off when people aren't open to experimental electronic.....

So this chill experimental shit is AWESOME! The title of it refers to the drink Kambucha. It is a drink supposidely good for digestive health that they sell at whole foods, it's kinda nasty but its alright because its detoxifying.
